What is the process of installing a fibreglass pool?

Site Preparation: The first step is to prepare the site where the fiberglass pool will be installed. The area needs to be cleared of any obstacles, rocks, or debris. The ground may need to be leveled, and the soil may need to be compacted to provide a stable base for the pool.

Excavation: Once the site is ready, we will excavate the area to create a hole that matches the shape and size of the fiberglass pool shell.

Placing the Pool Shell: The fiberglass pool shell is then carefully lowered into the excavated hole using a crane or other lifting equipment. It’s crucial to ensure that the pool is level and properly positioned in the hole.

Backfilling: After the pool shell is in place, the area around the pool is backfilled with sand or gravel. The backfill material helps provide support for the pool shell and ensures stability.
Plumbing and Electrical: Plumbing and electrical work are then completed. This includes installing the pool’s circulation system, pumps, filters, and any necessary electrical connections for lighting or other features.

Decking and Coping: The pool deck and coping are installed around the perimeter of the pool.
Final Touches: Any additional features, such as waterfalls, fountains, or built-in spas, are added as per the customer’s requirements.

Filling and Testing: The pool is filled with water, and the pool equipment is tested to ensure everything is functioning correctly. The water is treated to balance the chemistry and make it safe for swimming.

Pool Handover: Once everything is in working order, the team at Aqua Lagoon Pools will provide a thorough explanation of the pool’s maintenance and operation. This includes tips on water chemistry, pool cleaning, and equipment usage.

What is a fibreglass pool?

A fiberglass pool is a type of pre-fabricated swimming pool made from fiberglass-reinforced plastic. It is a popular choice for many homeowners due to its durability, low maintenance requirements, and relatively quick installation process.

Why is fibreglass better than other types of pools?

Fiberglass pools have several advantages that make them a preferred choice for many homeowners over other types of pools, such as concrete and vinyl liner pools. Here are some reasons why fiberglass pools are considered better than other pool types:

Durability: Fiberglass pools are known for their durability and longevity. The fiberglass material is strong and flexible, making it less prone to cracking or leaking, which can be common issues with concrete pools.

Low Maintenance: The smooth, non-porous surface of fiberglass pools makes it difficult for algae and bacteria to adhere, resulting in fewer chemical treatments and lower maintenance requirements compared to concrete and vinyl liner pools.

Quick Installation: Fiberglass pools are pre-fabricated and delivered as a single unit to the installation site. The installation process is faster and more straightforward than building a concrete pool, which can take several weeks or months.
Comfortable Surface: The smooth surface of fiberglass pools is gentle on the skin and feet, providing a comfortable and enjoyable swimming experience.

Chemical Efficiency: Fiberglass pools require fewer chemicals to maintain proper water chemistry compared to concrete pools. The surface does not react with pool water, reducing the need for pH balancing and chemical adjustments.
Algae Resistance: Fiberglass pools’ non-porous surface inhibits algae growth, reducing the frequency of scrubbing and cleaning required to keep the pool looking pristine.

Energy Efficiency: The smooth surface of fiberglass pools reduces water friction, making it easier for pool pumps to circulate water, which can result in energy savings.

Do fibreglass pools fade?

All our fibreglass pools are finished with MarbleTech™, an innovative marine gelcoat finish. MarbleTech has the luxurious appearance of marble and is also fade resistant, giving you the peace of mind that your swimming pool will continue to look great for years to come. Naturally, the interior finish you choose for your swimming pool helps create the colour and reflective qualities of the water in your pool.

MarbleTech finishes are available in a wide range of beautiful colours and effects so you can have the sparkling pool you’ve always wanted.

Are fibreglass pools easier to maintain?

Yes, fiberglass pools are generally easier to maintain compared to other types of pools, such as concrete and vinyl liner pools.

The gel coat on the surface of fiberglass pools creates a smooth and non-porous finish. This smooth surface makes it difficult for algae and bacteria to adhere, reducing the chances of algae growth and making cleaning easier.

The non-porous surface of fiberglass pools also means that fewer chemicals are needed to maintain proper water chemistry. The pool water is less likely to interact with the pool shell, reducing the need for pH balancing and chemical adjustments.

Fiberglass pools’ non-porous surface inhibits algae growth, leading to fewer instances of algae blooms. This means less time and effort spent scrubbing and cleaning the pool to keep it looking clear and inviting.

Do I need a permit for my fibreglass swimming pool?

You will generally need a permit or approval to install a swimming pool, regardless of the pool type (fiberglass, concrete, or other). This permit ensures that the pool meets safety standards, fencing requirements, and other relevant regulations.

Pool and Spa Registration Requirments

On 1 December 2019, new laws to improve swimming pool and spa safety came into effect in Victoria. It is mandatory for owners of land where a swimming pool or spa is located to register their pool or spa with the relevant council.

The laws apply to swimming pools and spas that are capable of holding more than 300 mm (30 cm) of water. This includes permanent pools, above ground pools, indoor pools, hot tubs, bathing or wading pools, and some relocatable pools.

Can I have salt water in my fibreglass pool?

Yes, you can have a saltwater system in your fiberglass pool.

Many fiberglass pools are compatible with saltwater systems, and they are a popular choice among pool owners due to the benefits they offer.

A saltwater pool uses a chlorine generator, also known as a salt chlorinator, to produce chlorine from salt dissolved in the water.

Is it expensive to heat my fibreglass pool?

The cost of heating a fiberglass pool can vary depending on several factors, including the size of the pool, the desired water temperature, the efficiency of the heating system, local energy prices, and the climate in your area. Heating any pool, including fiberglass pools, will incur ongoing expenses, so it’s essential to consider these factors when planning to heat your pool.
